El Chalten, gateway to the rugged Patagonia mountains, attracts climbers from around the world. Carolina Codo (38) was one of them. She moved here from Cordova, Argentina to climb but also to help the community. Carolina became the second doctor to serve this region and was the only doctor in town for many years. “I wanted to help people in a remote area,” said Carolina. “Since I am a climber, I was also able to participate in mountain rescues.” Carolina is also the mother of two sons and the owner of a hostel. She says, “(My) kids are my priority, and I continue to work and climb with my busy schedule because they have taught me so much about how I want to live my life.”

Carolina’s impact on Miho

After hearing about how Carolina so generously helps her community, I began thinking about how I could give back to the communities I visited during my travels.  I had originally planned to recognize all of the women through a video documentary upon my return, but Carolina’s example encouraged me to think of creative ways to give back from the road as well.
