10 Everyday Actions

“How can I live more simply to reduce my carbon footprint?”

Below is a list of 10 everyday actions that I’ve committed to since my return. These actions help me simplify my life in general and reduce my carbon footprint.

  • Ride my bike and carpool whenever I can
  • Significantly decrease the amount of miles I drive alone in my car
  • Adjust our household thermostat to use less heat
  • Launder with cold water to use less electricity
  • Eat wisely: take only what I need and eat less meat
  • Use the better world shopping guide to support socially and environmentally responsible companies and make more informed shopping decisions
  • Donate a total of 2% of my annual income (before taxes) to organizations working to improve the environment, human rights and access to outdoor recreation
  • Contribute to micro-loans for women’s education and entrepreneurship
  • Continually educate myself about global women’s rights
  • Practice love and compassion
